Software Engineer

The Role

A backend/web application engineer is required to join one of the pioneers and leading suppliers of streaming media and webcasting services in the UK. They pride themselves on their long-standing relationships with their clients. They believe in being open, friendly, honest and fair to both their clients and their staff. For staff this means an informal but professional atmosphere in a great office space and location, from which the team deliver great quality service to their clients while having a considerable amount of fun.

Working from Skopje, this position would suit an engineer with at least one to two year’s commercial experience in:

• Understanding and experience of Agile methodologies
• OO PHP with either Laravel or Lumen experience
• Angular (possibility for training)
• Experience in working within a remote team

Experience with the following would be advantageous:

• On-line Video – ffmpeg, OBS, FNLE, Wowza
• Working with OVP’s – Kaltura, BrightCove
• GitHub
• Testing methodologies
• Documentation methodologies
• ISO27001

About Groovy Gecko

They are not a standard development environment but rather a small, growing and dynamic team with a lot of influence in how things are delivered. They work on many diverse projects, often simultaneously. Typically, their deliverables are as much web application as website, and are all specifically aligned to the delivery and exploitation of online video.

You will be working on the ongoing development and enhancement of their award-winning, flagship live webcast application as well as new major Government projects. There will also be a large number of ongoing smaller developments on which you will work as and when individual client jobs arise, typically for large brands and agencies. The company has a strong R&D ethos, and sometimes you will be involved is trying to make the impossible, possible.

Work can come in at short notice and sometimes to tight timescales and this can involve juggling of activity. They are a very agile team, occasionally verging on the chaotic. The work environment can sometimes be pressured and occasionally stressful. You will have to work closely with their webcasting, support and event management teams in a spirit of collaboration and with the aim of keeping internal colleagues and their customers happy.
